U.S. Federal & State Personal Income Tax Preparation

All U.S. citizens are required to file a federal income tax return every year if their income is above the minimum filing threshold established by the IRS. This rule applies to all citizens, no matter where in the world they live or where their income originates. The United States taxes its citizens based on citizenship, not location, which means the filing obligation continues even when living abroad.

As a result, U.S. citizens residing in Canada are still responsible for submitting a U.S. federal tax return if their income reaches or surpasses the applicable threshold set for their filing status. This remains true even when all of their earnings come solely from Canadian sources and they are fully compliant with Canadian tax requirements. Paying Canadian taxes does not remove the requirement to report income to the IRS. If your income meets the filing minimum, you must still file a U.S. return and claim any relevant credits, exclusions, or deductions that help prevent double taxation.
